Talia’s story
4-year-old Talia suffers from a perforated atrial septal defect and mitral valve prolapse – also known as a hole in the heart – and needs urgent open-heart surgery.
Talia is one of two daughters of Syrian parents who have lived in the UAE for over 10 years. Talia’s father is unemployed and her mother is an elementary school teacher. The family depend on the mother’s salary and they are unable to afford Talia’s medical expenses.
The heart defect was discovered 3 months ago when Talia’s parents noticed that she was always tired, lacked energy for simple tasks and did not want to play. Talia had lost her happy spark and had become withdrawn.
Talia’s parents are frightened that their young daughter’s condition will deteriorate and are desperate to get her the life-saving treatment she urgently needs to regain her health and joyful spirit “We just want to see Talia healthy again. We miss her sweet, happy smile.”
